It would make more sense if Ben recorded album 3 and then called it a day because you can't replace Ben, ever Frown I suppose what softens the blow is that, in all honesty, SVIIB are completely amazing

This is indeed a very sad day. I think hearing the news from a band member, rather than some random press officer was a really respectable thing to do, and that we must be thankful.

I hope Benjamin has enjoyed his times in the Secret Machines, and now with his new band, and I wish them all the success, but my passion is with THIS band.

However, the news is unutterably shocking for all fans, new and old i'm sure, and I'm feeling it right now. It's been three lovely years for myself in being mesmerised by the Secret Machines, and although I may appear dramatic, I feel I may as well have just been told the band have split.

I've never felt the way I feel about TSM with any other band, they have made an incredible, signifcant impact on my little life... The band, and Benjamin have been so good to all of their fans, and me in particular, to which I shall never forget. I have felt privileged to have formed stronger relationships with Benjamin and the band than just being a fan. And most importantly, without TSM I would have never met the love of my life, and I couldn't be more thanfkul for that, and it is a time like this which makes me pause and reflect, so excuse me if I find it hard to swallow the news at this very moment.

It is inevitably true that the band will never be the same, it couldn't be, and shouldn't be because we'd be simply forgetting how much Benjamin brought to the band. I can't imagine a replacement, and I also can't imagine a two-piece Secret Machines, but I'll still have faith because the boys have earnt that in all their hard work over the years.

I for one will take a moment to thank Benjamin for joining the Secret Machines and taking seven years out of his life to contribute in producing such mindblowing music which has brought us all together in this very place. He will surely be missed. Who's joining me?

well said, Carrie.
Ben's commitment and work done with The Secret Machines has been a fantastic contribution to the music world in general. of course we all hoped to have our trio together and strong for years to come, but i believe tremendously in each of them to make it all work out; for themselves, and for all of us which i know they aren't forgetting.

le sigh.
it's gonna take some time to truly come to grips with this.
i wonder if Marfa will still be on our way? i don't see why not.
and i'm very anxious to hear the new album. i'm sure it'll be great. i just pray it's not the last Frown

i fully agree with what's being said here. I don't know what to say though. Thanks I guess, and I know that even though this era of TSM is ending, a new one is coming for Brandon and Josh and then also for Ben and SVIIB. Together yall were absolutely and incredibly life-changing for me with your music, and I can only hope that that will continue in each of the respective bands, but I know it won't. For the 2 years that I've listening to The Secret Machines, you've been my favorite band, and I don't think that will change. At least not anytime soon. What yall were to me is almost unmatchable. At least its not over. I'm still excited for Marfa, and a new album and the SVIIB album. I know this happens with bands, butbI just didn't expect it this soon. I agree with whoever said that it seems like things were just getting going.. but I guess I'm happy to have experienced this music in its time.

I started liking the Secret Machines when I was just 13 and yall should be proud because you were the ones who truly changed my music perspective and made it a huge part of my life. While this is crushing and I'm devatated, I will always cherish this time of my life and all the Secret Machines' music, and I look forward to more great things from all three of these men.

The Secret Machines single-handedly made me realize the my generation's music is not the shit I believed it to be.

The Secret Machines introduced me to 3 of the greatest people I've ever had the chance to talk to: Bree, Martha & Mel. Not to mention everyone else I've met on this board.

The Secret Machines were the first band that gave me songs that created so many emotions at once that I didn't realize was possible. How many songs can make you feel inspired, thoughtful, empowered, excited, melancholy and happy to realize that you are so lucky to listen to this piece of music.

How can I not be thankful for everything they've given me, and how can I not be devastated that it won't be the same anymore?

It's okay, you guys. Baby Silvertooth and Josh will still make an awesome album. And really, they've been changing and evolving, anyway. Like, Captain Audio didn't have Benjamin in it, but that evolved into TSM. I'm sure it will be okay. I'm glad they aren't breaking up altogether.

*Trying hard not to be upset, as I've already had the worst week of my life.*

You guys are my favourite band and this is just the most horrible news I've heard in a long time. (As bad as when Mark got kicked out of Snow Patrol - and he was only a fifth of the band!)

Yes - I'm in denial.... Frown Cup of tea anyone? Frown

DENIAL
-------
In the denial stage we refuse to believe what has happened. We try in our mind to tell ourselves that life is as it was before our loss. We can even make believe to an extent by re enacting rituals that we used to go through with our loved one. Making an extra cup of tea for our loved one who is no longer there, rushing back to tell someone that you have met an old friend. Flashing back to times and conversations in the past as though they we here with us now. They can all be part of this stage.

amen. except i need a stiff drink instead of tea right about now. blah.

This is the worst and best news ever. New TSM album! But without Benjamin. :-(

This sucks.

Wish you all the possible luck for your future Benjamin, Brandon and Josh. I am pretty confused about this situation and hope that it will turn out fine for all of you. By the way the new School of Seven Bells track is awesome, if they go on like that, we can expect am amazing album. Finally we all have to accept changes in a band, so let's just wait and see what the future has got for us.

This is difficult to process. This is the first meaningful musical movement I didn't have to read about or watch impotently through a television screen because it was happening HERE and NOW. And now it's...over? At least as we knew it. Everything seems a bit sketchy now, though, I'm not quite ready to attend the funeral just yet...anything can happen. Maybe he just needs to get his experimental on before cooling off and coming back to where the real shit is.

But in the meantime, if you need me, I'll be listening to Sad and Lonely on repeat in the dark whilst crying/masturbating.

Weren't you,

Goodness. Crying and masturbating? I will be in fetal position until the new TSM album comes out.

Well, I am going to do some extreme street teaming for TSM's next album to show my support. Like ATHF bombscare street-teaming. I will go graffiti all over Dallas and Ft. Worth if I have to and when I am NYC this summer, I will do it there, too.

Have the band considered like doing a last tour, with all three of them, as a mark of respect/goodbyes? For all us fans. Even if its just one show per country.

Also, i'm planning something (probably). I'll be PMing/myspace messaging people. Don't ask me about it, if you're worthy, i'll contact you.

Josh and Brandon will probably continue to make music and then hire someone to fill in on guitar for the shows.

Trent Reznor makes all of his insane sounds and hires bandmates for the tours. If his paid bandmates can reproduce his sounds there is no doubt this can be achieved by the secret machines. Sure it wont be the same sound as the old secret machines but they've always been evolving from sept 000 to TSD. I'm sure it will still be quality stuff.

They'll probably play together again, for a show or two every once in awhile, but I can't imagine that they'll do a farewell tour. That's doesn't seem like their "style."

However, if we get wind of any show any where that involves the three of them playing together, I'm there.

maybe if we got David Bowie, Michael Rother, and Bauhaus to record one of those 'sorry we couldnt be here to accept the award' style videos convincing them to?
